Packing
Be methodical. Do one room at a time leaving kitchen and bathroom until last. As you pack each box, mark its contents.
- Mark on each box clearly, into which room in the new house you want it placed.
- You will come across a great many things you no longer want or need. Put these aside and either take to a charity shop, contact the local auction rooms or take a trip to the tip.
- Pack a 'Moving Day Box'. Include kettle, tea, coffee, still mineral water (in case the water has been turned off), whitener, sugar, biscuits, a selection of cutlery, sharp knife and a torch.
- Pack a small tool box. Include screwdrivers of several types, hammer, electrician’s pliers, spare plugs and fuses, a few electric light bulbs and anything else you think you might need.
- Make sure your own vehicle(s) are in good condition - check tyres, lights, water, oil etc.
- Check and clear the attic.
- Check and clear the cellar if you have one.
- Check and clear the garage.
Check and clear all garden sheds, greenhouse and outhouses.
- Decide which plants to take and prepare them for the move.
- Check the garden thoroughly to make sure no toys or tools are left behind.
- Prepare houseplants for the move.
- When everything seems to be packed, check all built-in cupboards.
- Organize a key handing-over procedure.
